- According to Pew Research Center surveys, "there is a growing gulf between rich and poor".
- President Obama is addressing this issue and made a speech on Wednesday, "a dangerous and growing inequality in the nation which now stood as the defining challenge of our time".
- Many people who took this survey "Perceptions of the Poor" stated that it is beyond a person's control if they are poor due to low income.
Is America lurching toward a new normal?
In this article:
- According to Andrew Heller, "the fabled American Dream is about to become just that. A dream".
- Heller gives background about the issues America has faced, wars, civil turmoil, gas shortages ect. and points out that we got through it until now.
- Heller brings up that "the rich are getting richer, and the poor are getting poorer and the middle class seems to be dwindling faster than a snowball in summer".
- He also believes that the chances of living the American Dream are not progressing but dying and this effect will be permanent .
- Heller predicts "housing prices will never rise, gas prices will never fall, jobs will never be plentiful again, wages will never increase, college will never be affordable congress will never stop squabbling, and the lords of wall street will never rest until they own it all."
Response to the Heller article by Lacey Mathison.
I think it is really interesting how Heller brought up that the American Dream is only going to be just a dream. I also thought it was interesting how he brought up that no matter what issue America has faced, they got through it until now. I agree with Heller that the American Dream is setting and that things are not getting better but worsening.

Park avenue, money, power,
and the American Dream-why poverty?
Response to video by Lacey Mathison
I think this video is very moving because it talks about how the poor are losing their homes and how the rich are getting their taxes lowered. I like how it shows factual evidence of how the rich are controlling everything and taking more and more money. It interests me how they talk about that politicians are bought. This means that it is not the politician's choice, but the rich corporations who make the decisions on how to run things.

Political Cartoon
Response to political cartoon by Lacey Mathison.
This political cartoon shows the big corporations that are making most of the wealth are seeing less and less poor people because they are sitting so high on top of their bag of cash. This bag is titled inequality because of the uneven distribution of wealth. Many hardworking Americans are poor because of these corporations
that take much of their profit which keeps them in the lower class. The author of this political cartoon is trying to show that the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. This shows that we Americans are very much far away from the American Dream.
